A Dark kNight for the King starts off subversively as a fantasy-quest novel and then veers into science fiction to become something new altogether. Wonderful concepts with nuanced characters and surprisingly epic stakes, A Dark kNight conjured the purity of the great novels of the past. I read like a kid with a flashlight under his sheet, unable to put it down. With the scope and sheer imagination of Jules Verne joined to the epic Homerian characters, A Dark kNight is inspiring, suggesting that fantasy and sci-fi are very much alive and there is much more to explore. The story elements are as clean and sharp as glass, and the revelations at the end hit home (reminding me of the end of the first Dark Tower novel from Stephen King). This is great adventure with a canvas of ideas to match.
I look forward to the following volumes.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and adventure wrapped up in one neat package. It starts out interesting and ends up astonishing.
Writers need to polish a few style details, but I'm a picky fantasy reader and I liked the story. I'm going to go look for book 2 right now!
